Yodlee API v1.0 (Aggregation) - FAQs

Why a new API platform?

Yodlee has made heavy investments in simplifying the developer experience and it all begins with the API first. The new Yodlee API follows RESTful best practices so that it gives developers already familiar with RESTful APIs a solid foundation to get access to financial data. Along with the following RESTful best practices, the API platform will include simplifying and enhancing the developer experience from the documentation to improved test experience. The goal of the new Yodlee API is to simplify the entire developer experience from simple endpoints to complete developer resources.

Who is this for?

We are currently releasing this for new customers or existing customers with a new initiative. If you do not have an integration with Yodlee, use this API to get started.

How are the API options different?

We currently support SOAP and our REST wrapper calls in the developer portal. The new Yodlee API has been rebuilt from the bottom up. We simplified the return data and reduced the complexity of the API calls.

Is this currently available for existing developers/customers?

This is available if the existing developer has a new initiative where porting is not necessary. We are working on making the new Yodlee API available to existing customers who want to migrate to the new interface. In preparation, we will be providing migration instructions showcasing how the SOAP and REST wrapper API flows are mapped to existing calls. Stay tuned for more information and please reach out to us if you are interested in learning more.

I’m in the middle of my development leveraging the existing API calls. Should I stop and use the new Yodlee calls?

If you feel that you would like to try the new API requests and the capabilities fit your needs, please do! We’ve worked hard on the new API platform and we’d love for you to use it.

Will I need to do a migration of existing users/accounts that have been added to the platform?

When the new requests are available for existing customers, we’ll provide guidance on any migration steps and API changes.

Will you be deprecating the old API requests?

No. We are not planning any deprecations at this point. Our main focus is to simplify the developer experience and we understand that there will be folks who do not want to rework their integrations. As we roll out net new capabilities, it may be in your best interest to move to the new Yodlee API platform to take advantage of them.

Can I mix the usage between the older and newer requests (SOAP and the Yodlee calls)?

No. While the new Yodlee core API is just a different type of access compared to SOAP or the REST wrapper requests, we don’t recommend mixing their usage.

What is the difference in terms of the data?

While the data powering the platform is the same, we’ve added functionality in the new Yodlee API to further cleanse and normalize the data. The new Yodlee API will provide access to data that has a consistently high population rate for ALL the different financial institutions that we get data from. You will have seamless and consistent data experiences.

How do I get access to the new Yodlee API requests?

You can get play with the new Yodlee API calls using the credentials that are created with a developer account. To access the new calls, you can either use your favorite REST API tool (Postman and Google Chrome’s REST tool work well) or leverage the interactive API reference tool to try out the API calls.

Are there any best practices / API flows?

Yes, take a look at the API flow in our documentation. It explains the order in which you need to invoke our requests.

Can I build mobile applications using the Yodlee API?

Yes, you can! We recommend that you leverage a server to server type integration

What do we do when we get an account locked error?

Contact Yodlee Customer Care.

How long does it take it to unlock an account?

It can take a few hours to unlock an account

What happens to a provider ID if the site is acquired?

When the site gets acquired, if the acquiring site is supported for aggregation by Yodlee, the existing users are migrated to the new provider ID. The acquiring site is enabled for customers and the original provider ID is disabled.

Will this work with Yodlee FastLink 2.0?

Yes! We encourage you to use Yodlee FastLink 2.0 to add accounts to the platform. It simplifies the account addition process for all the financial institutions that we handle in our platform. You can check it out here - Yodlee Fastlink 2.0.

Will there be new functionalities and endpoints in the future?

Yes, we will be providing updates with new functionalities. As part of supporting new functionalities, we will expose new RESTful endpoints.
